: I bought an old wooden (with varnish or shellac) chair that has a name in magic marker on the arm. Any ideas on how to remove it? Thanks.

Tina,
I would try "Goof Off" which can be bought at paint stores

Goof Off is also excellent for
cleaning greasy or grimy surfaces
prior to painting. Goof Off removes
many other troublesome household
stains such as tar, glues, sticker
residue, gum, adhesives, grease,
oil, crayons, pen ink, and markers.
Nothing guarantees success and
referrals better than a neat, clean
job. Goof Off is the perfect choice
for a spotless finish.

Terry
