Of the three toilets you have mentioned, Toto, Vacuity and American Standard, I would consider the TotoDrake or Ultramax first in performance.
Round versus elongated: Most of the toilets in the report are designed in such a way that shape makes no difference. It is rare to ever see a vortex action on a new toilet. Western Pottery somehow manages a good vortex, but in a more slam-bam way than the old water wasters that slowly, slowly spun the waste down.
A real sore point in toilet design in my opinion, are the sharp edges inside the outlet of the trapway on some units. Mansfield and Kohler have trouble with this.
In case you are wondering, toilets change quite often in my home.
