Usually when the float ball breaks off, the excess water in the tank is exhausted through the overflow tube, into the bowl. Unless your overflow tube or bowl is plugged you should not have a flood. Maybe you had a defective float ball at the same time that the toilet or overflow tube was plugged?.....Lou
