: Could you recommend the best way I can unthread two pipes that have been joined together for many years.I am trying to avoid any damage to the part of the pipe that will stay on the job.Time is not a factor here and I am thinking of some kind of solution or heat that may help .Thanks

You can heat the hub of the fitting, thereby expanding for a short time and unthread using pipe wrenches on both fitting and pipe. If you wait too long, the pipe becomes the same temperature as the fitting and the advantage is lost. Terry
