I am surprised that none of the plumber types have not answered your question yet. An opinion from a non-expert is that the drain and the waste pipe are one and the same. Sorry, I don't know how to add drawings to this but, depending on how close your shower is to a vented stack (vertical section of waste pipe vented to the exterior) you may only have one drain pipe from your shower to the stack. Alternatively, you may have a vent line which Tee's off the drain and vents to the exterior. Hope this helps.
