No grease. It will cause the rubber to deteriorate and could soften the plastic so the seal becomes loose. Either use soap or water soluble KY jelly.
: I'm putting in a new fiberglass shower. The drain assembly is brass and has a rubber ring that is compressed with a large notched brass ring to seal the drain to the 2" PVC drain stem. Should the rubber ring be coated inside and out with plumber's grease to give the ring a better seal. One plumber friend says "No" and the supplier says "yes". What has your experience shown? Thanks for your comments....Cool and sunny here at the New Jersey shore.....Austin
