: How can you be sure? just do it. and wait for it to leak or do the right thing and replace the shower pan,expensive but trouble free for another 25 years or more.Dale

Tile and grout by nature are not water tight. The membrane below the mortar, tile and grout should be. It there is water leaking in a mud set shower pan, than the problem is in the membrane. Check the link below for information on mud set pans. Terry
