If it comes off at all, it's probably from hard water. If it doesn't come off at all, it's likely too much dishwashing soap. The soap is actually an abrasive, and I'd suspect 90+ percent of us use more than is recommended, thus etching our glassware. : We are having a problem with a cloudy residue being left on our glasses.
