How do attach the new flange to the bend?

-Charles

: You can break the flange off of the bend, and then install a new one at the proper level. The seal between the flange and the bend is essential for leak prevention. It is not just to secure the toilet to the floor.

: : I am remodelling my bathroom and find that the toilet flange is over an inch off the floor. This means that the wax ring gets compressed to a couple of millimeters, leaving not much of a seal. It has evidently been this way a long time with no problems-- thoug I have no idea how well the new toilet will cope with this height.
: : The bend is quite close to the cast iron stack, and the bend has very little slope to it, so just dropping the bend would reguire cutting out a piece of the stack, and resintalling. I am hoping for an alternative.
: : Can I just saw off the flange and bolt a flange to the floor, using a wqay ring with a sleeve to get the waste into the bend? Better ideas?

: : Thanks,

: : Charles
