You can break the flange off of the bend, and then install a new one at the proper level. The seal between the flange and the bend is essential for leak prevention. It is not just to secure the toilet to the floor. : I am remodelling my bathroom and find that the toilet flange is over an inch off the floor. This means that the wax ring gets compressed to a couple of millimeters, leaving not much of a seal. It has evidently been this way a long time with no problems-- thoug I have no idea how well the new toilet will cope with this height. : Thanks, : Charles
