Insulation slows down heat transfer,it does not prevent it. No matter how well insulated, if the system remains hot, it will eventually reach stasis with the room. The bigger question is whether (2) 6" openings, (one should be at the ceiling and the other near the floor), are adequate for the equipment you have in the room.

: My mechanical closet contains a Weil McLain CG boiler and a 40 gal Amtrol Hot Water Maker. Its REALLY hot in there all of the time even with the 2-6" round combustion air openings directly to the exterior. I've already insulated all of the heating water piping and its still pretty warm. Is there a factory jacket for the Amtrol or do I have to create one?
