I'm looking for anyone who knows anything about chronic problems with plastic (polymar) dip tubes breaking down (depolymarizing) in hot water heaters. I don't mean breaking off but literally turning to a plastic mush that ends up either coming out of your tap into your water supply or gumming up the workings of your distribution channel? My understanding is that this problem might be related to a problem with the formula used to create the dip tube material at the point of manufacture. I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has any experience with this problem.
