John:--If the heater is located in a garage, or an area where gasoline or other combustables might pose a serious problem due to a source of ignition (like the pilot flame for the heater), then the heater must be elevated 18" above the floor.
It is now necessary to raise laundry dryers up 18" as well......and there is serious discussion of raising refrigerators..freezers..water pumps or other potential sources of ignition 18" above the floor as well because of the electrical spark produced by the motor relay or switchs.
