brown water

I recently remodeled my bathroom and replaced the old shower fixture with a new one. I used galvanized metal pipes for the water direction to the tub faucet. Now after I do not use the tub spout for a day, the first quart of water comes out brown. I am guessing that this is rust. Am I correct? and what are my options or hazzards for the bathers. The fixture is completely enclosed and will be very difficult to replace. any information would be helpful.thanks.
