hello, my problem started when the prevous owner decided to put carpet in the dining room. he covered the hole to the partial basement. then he dug out a cellar, broke through the basement wall so he could get to the furnace and water heater down there. I bought the house, and have had problems with freezing pipes and a spring runs under the house so I have a sump. here is the question. should I move the hot water tank and furnace up to the main floor and fill in the old basement. this will take care of the sump but what about the frozen pipe situation? Any ideas would help. thanks Dave
