: I bought an old wooden (with varnish or shellac) chair that has a name in magic marker on the arm. Any ideas on how to remove it? Thanks. Here's a suggestion....try fingernail remover without acetone in it, I have used it several times on stained wood and it removes permanent black marker that has been there for a long time withouth stripping the varnish.
