Gerber Valve

I have a Gerber mixing valve on my Tub/shower, I recently replaced the cartridge and withn two weeks it started to leak. I found that the o-rings on the side of the cartride were torn. I checked with local plumbing supply where I bought the cartridge for o-rings only to find out they are an odd size and not available. The valve is about 20 years old. Any reason why the o-rngs tore and also where I might be able to find the o-rings. Pat Mclaughin
