Jackie: "Consumers Report" has done a great job of identifying the top values in the country in residential free standing gas fired water heaters. Energy efficiency rating were plotted against initial investment cost. Some of the least expensive turned out to be real losers over the average life of the product. Some of the best performers simply could not justify the pricey tags on the merchandise. There were several offerings that did not have well known names that stole the show in realatively low initial investment costs and still got straight "A"s in performance.
