If you have a particular water problem that precludes the use of copper, then PEX is the only alternative. Otherwise, I would not do it. I am not sure whether you have a basement, but if not PEX tubing has to be run in the attic. In that case you may have a difficult time getting cold water in the summertime. It will usally be hot or warm from the heat in the attic area. And the hot water pipes will cool down faster in the winter.

: I am having a home built, and the builder wants to use PEX. We live in Fresno, Ca where it gets very hot in the summer (100-115 degrees).

: Is this a wise choice or should we stick with copper.

: We are also putting in a water softening system, any advice on a good brand?
