Anti-Scald valve

I recently had two Watts Reg. Co. anti-scald valves installed to cool down some extremely hot water coming out of my tankless oil burner/water heater. Problem is I don't think they were installed correctly. It seems that the hot water is feeding into the cold feed line and heating that up as the line sits idle so now I get scalding water from both the hot and cold lines. Feed lines are correct but it seems there should be some sort of a back-flow valve or someone mentioned a thermal trap (a vertical loop of pipe about 12" to keep the hot water from traveling down the pipe). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
