If the drain pipe goes up before reaching the trap, you will negate the trap's effectiveness. : Help!! We are installing a laundry tub in our garage. Because we had to come in through a crawlspace, the drain pipe we installed comes out about 4 inches above the floor. Question: Does the trap have to be below the level of the drain pipe? Due to installing base cabinets, I want to go up 6 inches or so, then out, then install the trap.
