I'd really like to know the procedure to follow (tools/methods)to remove a relatively small area of slab granite countertop without cracking it. My problem is similar to Warren's above; I just need to know how to accomplish it. Thanks.

(original request): I'm in the process of purchasing a new home, and due to some miscommunication with the builder, they installed the wrong color sinks in the kitchen islands. The builder is claiming that they can not remove the counter tops (approximately 1.5 -- 2" thick slab) without breaking it. It sounds to me like they just don't want to do it, but I'm not expert. What do you think?

: tia for any advice,
