variable gas smell

We recently added an additon with a slab floor. We have an intermitant noxious gas-like smell. We have had the propane company inspect, the housing inspector and environemental sepecialists try an figure out the problem with no success. Our plumber has run a thorough check. We are looking for help in identifying the source. The old part of the house is also on a slab. Can sheet rock or insulation be a problem? Thanks for your ideas!
