|In response to Re: kitchen sink strainer basket|
Poor installation. One of the biggest problems can be putty that squeezes through the opening when the drain is set. It has to be removed before putting the gasket and nut in place. Otherwise it gets into the threads and prevents complete tightening of the nut.
: My kitchen sink strainer basket leaks badly. I have set the basket in plumber's putty three times now, the previous time without the paper washer. I was told that the paper washer is critical to keeping the rubber washer from puckering, but I am skeptical that the putty will work at all and am considering using some silicone sealant (the next time a leak appears). What's my problem hot dishwater in the sink dissolves the putty, or just a poor install the first two times??
