For your safety and peace of mind, have it checked by an expert. With the voltage in the heater, you can get in trouble very quickly. And the best way to test the elements and thermostats is with the power on and the proper test equipment. This is not something for the beginner to try.
: i have noticed that my hot water is running ouit veryt quickly when i looked at my water heater the lower element is not always warm (sometimes it is some times its not)how can i ccheck if the element or even if the thermostat on it is bad? i was told to do it with a continuity tester but not sure how to do it.
