It is my understanding that the air gap is necessary when hooking into the sink tailpiece. If there were a trap below the subfloor (basement, crawlspace), wouldn't that make the air gap unnecessary? The dishwasher I removed had a trap below it with flexible discharge hose connected directly to the trap. I'm changing to an island vent setup. Couldn't I hook it up the same way? |
