Part of the answer depends on the pipe in the floor. If it can raise like a lot of plastics systems, then a wax ring will not be effective since the flange may be able to compress it to the point that there is no seal left, or the movement can break the seal and since wax does not rebound the seal will not be restored. In cases like that, I use the sponge rubber gaskets which will compress into a tighter configuration as the bowl and flange are pulled together. Otherwise, I use a standard wax ring, or a #10 if the flange is below the finish floor level. But I never use one with a funnel horn, since I have seen too many of these create just enough back pressure to cause the ring to leak.
