You do not specify the brand, but if it is the GE that makes round cubes, the ejector is broke and only pops out three cubes, but it fills water for 5 cubes so the rest has to overflow. If this is your situation, then I would replace the ice maker with a Whirlpool crescent cube maker, but you have to specify that it is for a GE unit. If none of this applies to your particular ice maker, then you could have a fil valve that is slow closing, or a bad timer. The best repair is to replace the IM. : I have an ice maker that over-fills then over-flows about 3/4 cup of water.
