John, you may need to wait until the hotwater tank refills with softened water, this could take a few days. Running out of salt will not cause it to malfuntion mechanically. : I need a little help. My softner ran out of salt the other day and since then I can not mantain soft water. I have cleanned the nozzle and the venturi. The tube where the float is is not plugged with salt at the bottom. I have regenerated it many times and still no soft water. HELP PLEASE.
