Replacing toilet

I've removed old toilet to discover the metal flange is about 1-1/4" below the tile floor surface with about 3/4" of pipe sticking out, the flange is also slightly damaged. I purchased a closet flange extension kit to raise the flange closer to the surface, but discovered that they do not fit over the pipe. My question is what do I do? I've considered putting a wax ring over old flange to meet the gap caused by the pipe between the old flange and the extension kit, and then another wax ring on top of the extension. What do you think? Thank you in advance for answering!
