I am putting a new concrete floor in the basement. The floor will have a troweled decorative finish, then stained to the desired shade and color for a finished floor. We would like to have the shower pan in the bathroom be a continuation, at the same level, of the bathroom floor. My question is will poured cast concrete be suitably water repellent for a finished shower floor? We of course intend to grade the shower floor properly towards the floor shower drain.
I have a friend who constructed a very interesting shower from cast concrete parts he then mortared in place. It seems to hold up very well, but I question the porosity and water absorbtion of concrete. Any one have any ideas on this?
