Since I have used two 240 volts in series in place of a 480 volt one, it should work, although I cannot see why you would want to unless it is all you can get. At 240 volts the 277 one will produce less water than the 240 volt one. : Can I replace a 240 volt, 4500 watt water heater element with a 277 volt, 5000 watt element?
