Tom, I had a similar problem but never got an answer. Ours only whistled at night. I wound up paying a plumber $70 to come out and adjust my pressure regulator (ouch!). It turns out it isn't as dangerous for us laymen to fiddle with as you might think. Screwed all the way in, it is at full pressure. Turn it a good 4 or 5 full turns out; that should correct the whistling (in my case, it was coming from a 75psi secondary relief valve on the hot water heater; the plumber said he'd never seen anything like it before). Long before there is any danger of the screw coming out, you would have no water pressure at all. -Eli |
