In response to Re: Electric Water Heater High Temp
: I have a Rheem 40 gallon heater in our attic. A few days ago it tripped out due to very hot water. Since then I have replaced the upper thermostat, lower thermostat, 4500 wupper element, and the 4500w lower element- in this order. Each effort did not fix my problem. I thought this was all there was on an electric heater that could cause this type malfunction. I am at a loss now. Can you offer any suggestion short of dragging the unit out of the attic for replacement?

Gary,
You might want to check you house for a hotwater faucet dripping or something leaking. This can cause the waterheater to do what is called stacking. The lower element cycles on and off due to the slow leak. When this happens it stacks the hotwater causing the tripping of the reset.
