richard:---What kind of well do you have..dug well or drilled ? If it is a dug well, check to see if some critter has fallen in or have the water tested for organic contamination. If it is a drilled well, chances are what you smell is Hydrogen Sulphide gas (sulfur water). This is a common problem with shallow wells in my area (Florida) but can be treated with aeration or charcoal filtration. Sulfur water is of no danger to your health, just a little upsetting to the untrained nose (rotten egg odor). A drinking water source from surface water sources (shallow wells especially) should be checked occasionally by a qualified agency to determine its'wholesomeness. The water produced by your well may have come from an aquifer that has a problem a great distance from your property. In the mean time...why not install a large (Whole house) activated charcoal filter on your supply to your house, it will make a world of difference...Bud. |
