|In response to Re: Hot Water Heater Leak|
: : I have a Bradford White 80 gal Electric Hot Water Heater (model M-I-80R5SS-12). It was installed with
: : our new house in 1992.
: : Under the heater there is a circular cutout that is about 4-5 inches in diameter. Water is leaking
: : Any ideas on what may be causing it and what it would cost to replace or fix it ?
: : Thanks.
: The eight year old tank is probably not leaking. First look at the top where the temperature pressure reducing (tpr)valve is located. That valve also penetrates the light metal jacket through a circular cutout. If it has evidence of wetness or drips, it is leaking into the jacket, through the insulation, and out the hole in the cutout in the bottom. If it is leaking, try turning down the temperature of the water you are cooking. If it is not showing evidence of wetness, look at the hot and cold connections for eveidence of corrosion from dissimilar metals dripping onto the top and into the insulation.
I checked all areas and no water is or wetness is
