: I'm in the process of remodeling my kitchen. I've got it well under control except I'm not sure of what is going on with my drain. Under the sink is copper, just above the floor it becomes what I think is lead ( it's very soft metal), then it joins cast iron in the basement. Can I get rid of all of this and just run PVC to the cast iron? How do I connect the two materials??? There will be a disposal under the sink.

Yes, the cast iron should have a 2" hub fitting which will take a 2" rubber Fernco adapter (Tyseal) that will work with PVC pipe. On the upper side, you can use a PVC x copper shielded mission coupling.
