The Green Thing OP/ED

Numbers of people remodeling homes is thru the roof. (bad joke)
Numbers of people considering green alternatives is on the increase.

Firstly there are many types of Greens these days. Plenty of us don't live in a teepee like Daryll Hannah. I love a good steak and cigar-no treehugger mentality here.

The *Viridian Green Design Movement* seeks to make green products irrestible. These products 1.Look great 2. Work great 3.Affordable

I'm not going to argue why advocating green design is important imo.
That's a personal decision.
I will say this however:
If you can get the same performance from a green product...why not
go in that direction?

What Toto is doing with the Aquia toilet is a good example of what I'm talking about. (note: mine is not installed yet)

But firstly, I think it is important to get past the green stereotype (primarily radicals).
Those people I find annoying and would take away my SUV, Leather shoes, Whopper with cheese and outlaw any product containing a solvent.

I'm really curious to know where we are going with this...or am I off the mark here.

The ultimate green thing is efficient use of resources to meet our needs. My dispute with many of the advocates of the green revolution is that they pick some narrow aspect of a subject and then try to impose a social compulsion to do it their way regardless of the real cost of resources.

The market is the ultimate measure of resource allocation. It allocates labor, materials, and creativity, and puts a price on the product that buyers either choose or reject. Anything that requires my taxes or governmental compulsion to subsidize its survival in the market is not really green.

Using our taxes to subsidize production of ethanol from corn that farmers grow using diesel driven tractors with fertilizer that is made from natural gas, to produce fuel that reduces the fuel economy of our vehicles, is an example of the green movement pushing the politicians over the edge to absurdity.

I couldn't agree more Bob. If we have to suffer needlessly it's Not Green.
It's also Not green to compell people to fulfill someones political agenda
due to hyper-vigilance that comprises 3% of the populations wishes.

Personally I could give a rats ass if the Vegans are offended with my leather shoes. When 40% of the United States agree that leather should no longer be used then I might have a problem.

Viridian Green means producing products that you*want* to buy, at a reasonable price which also benefits and sustains the planet overall.
If it causes you problems,looks smells tastes weird it's not VIRIDIAN GREEN.

They need to recycle that restaurant refuse oil-make it about a dollar a gallon and convenient-then you have a winner.

Regarding Oil-it's not really relevant as to our individual opinions
about drilling and so on-it's running out.
In 50 years we simply won't have anymore according to most experts.

VG began as design concept-a warm blooded design concept which launched about 6 years ago. And the philosophy and politics of it are still evolving.
