Default Problem installing new tub drain

Hi,

I am remodeling a bathroom. As part of the process, I am replacing the bathtub drain. After the old one was removed, I started threading the new one in, only to discover that the drain shoe must be unlevel. The front part of the drain flange seats on the tub while the rear of the drain is still a good 1/4 inch above where it needs to seat.

I have just removed and replaced the walls and tile of the bath/shower, and REALLY do not want to tear anything out to get behind the tub to adjust the shoe.

Are there any tools available that would allow me to reach into the drain from the tub and adjust it? Any other ideas? Another kicker is that I have just had the tub refinished and I really am concerned about slipping and marring the finish.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!
