Does anyone know if a bathtub faucet has to be installed on the same side as the overflow location as well as the drain?

The tub we want to install has the overflow location in the middle of the long side of the tub (which is an outside wall so we cannot place the faucet on that side). What are our options?

You could put the faucet anywhere. It doesn't even have to be in the tub at all.

The only reason they do it is so when your lying in the tub there is nothing hitting your back or head.
