I was wondering if making the standpipe larger the 2" will help eliminate overflow.

Maybe 3" of 4 " to hold more water.

In what I have read in the paste 2 days it appears that the problem with overflow is that to much water is getting pump into the drain.

Any feedback ?

It is not how much it's how fast. 2" is what you want.

Newer washers are designed to pump the water out of the machine faster than a 1-1/2" drain can handle the volume of water. These machines are designed to use a 2" drain so he solution is to use a 2" standpipe and p-trap. It would not help to use a 3" or 4" standpipe if that was then reduced to a smaller size. You never should reduce the size of a drain on the way out. A constriction like that would be a spot that could clog. A 3" standpipe and p-trap that continued in a 3" drain or expanded into a 4" drain would certainly work, but it would be overkill.
