I am replacing Kohler 32x60 inch tub from the steal 30x60. The center tub shift over at least 1 inch that's mean I have to relocate the shower valve and the P drain over by 1 inch.
I wonder what should I do first when I set the tub in to align with the P trap here?

Should I cut this or unsolder to replace new P trap? Should I replace the P trap with PVC or Brass?

Thanks for any inputs

chuby,

I have exactly the same situation, will be interested to see what advice you get. My old tub was plumbed with a brass drum trap, and I am having a hard time figuring out how to get a new p-trap in. This is because, as you noted, the tub tailpiece is now 1" closer to the DWV line.

While you need to line up the trap, there is no requirement that the valve move over 1". Asthetically, you may want to, but it is not uncommon for them to be offset a little.

I'd replace the trap. I just finished some remodeling at my mother's house - was not planning on changing the tub drain, but it split when I was reconnecting it to the main line...the metal gets thinner and brittle as it ages.

I will post the picture of the P-trap later after I got them hook up. Cheer!
