have a question on installing a trap for a basement shower. The basement was rouged in for a shower. There is a 12" x 12" dap out with a 2" drain pipe. However the dap out is very close to the ground and in a corner of the dap out. In order to center the drain with the hole in the shower floor I'm going to have to twist the p trap quite drastically. I'm also going to have to drop the drain a few inches with two 45 degree elbows as the trap is currently sitting in dirt and won't go any further down. Please see attached picture and ignore the two disconnected 45's. I need to pick up one street 45 but this picture should get the point across. Are both of these solutions (p trap twist and two 45's for a drop) OK? Thanks in advance.

You don't want to do it like that, because it will be a partial S trap, which is not code and will possilby siphon.

Why not try to dig a little deeper. The drain does not have to be exactly in the center of that hole. Of course, it does need to line up with the shower pan.

yes, and maybe [1,2]

yes, twisting the fittings (the P trap parts) in all directions is OK. They do not have to go straight.

Now about the 45-degree thing, to get back to the right horizontal line (height) ... it may not even be necessary, if you just place the P trap lower down into the dirt, like jimbo already said. Whether or not doing the two 45 thing would be as bad as an S trap, or only as bad as a partial S trap, I don't know. It would work, but would there be some significant risk of it acting as an S trap? Knowing that one of the two fitting is a street, so it is as short as possible... I think not. But I also konw that there is no need to build it that way, since you own the earth under your house and you can dig down another couple inches... Would that work?

Thanks

I dug the dap out a little deeper and was able to line up the trap with the drain. Thanks so much to both of you for the help!
