Not a Plumbing Problem - But Would Appreciate Advice

Besides contacting them again about the obvious mistake, the local ABC affilliate, channel 7 tv station KGO has the consumer reporter Michael Finney.

There is a help section called "7 on Your Side". The web link is: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/index?section=7on_your_side&id=3279786

Or go to the "News" tab at KGO.com and select "7 on your side" from the pull down menu. Perhaps they would get on the case.

The State of California has a Dept. of Consumer Affairs which regulates appliance repair shops. So certainly a complaint should be filed. http://www.dca.ca.gov/aboutdca/licnhelp.htm

Did she sign anything?

Nothing was signed. I've sent another letter to GE explaining everything that happened. If it doesn't help, then I'll be contacting all the agencies that you guys advised me to contact, including "7 on your side", and file a complaint with them.

Thanks again,

Jerry

Hopefully this has been resolved

Sent another letter to GE explaining the whole situation. Also added in the letter that the oven hasn't been fixed as yet, so if they don't believe my explanation, they are welcome to send a representative to my mother's house to check the oven. Nine days after sending the letter, and in response to a phone call I placed to GE Appliances, GE responded that the charge has been removed from my mother's account. Hopefully this issue has been put to bed.

I want to thank everyone again for giving me valuable advise in this matter.

consumer affairs can lift their license! They will send out an agent to this buss.

huh?

Me, id wait and go to court, then when the judge asked for the invoice for the parts used!!!and the time in labor spent on said job was brought up?Id look at the G.E. guy and smile!

I highly doubt it would ever get in front of a judge. Even if it did go to small claims they (GE) would just bump it up to the next level then you would have to get a lawyer and for what $192.00? A lawyer would want $500.00 just to start.

If this happened at my house I would derive great pleasure from doing just that. Unfortunately any court session would require an appearance from my mother, and at 83 years of age the passion for a "good fight" is gone. There is only a desire for a quick resolution of the problem. It does appear as if the problem has been resolved, so as much as I would like to see the guilty parties punished I think that for her sake it is best to just leave it at that. If things fall through the cracks and GE brings this up again then obviously we will have to battle it out in the court, but I wouldn't want to do it unless absolutely necessary.

Cookie,

Actually this is a fairly new oven, about 2 - 3 years old that I bought her as a birthday present. In all this time she really hasn't used the oven very often, probably not more then 20 times, before the glow plug went out (past the warranty period). So much for GE reliability. She does use the gas cooktop part of the oven frequently. On the rare occasion that she decides to bake or broil something, she has been using a small DeLonghi electric oven, and she loves it. That aside I am going to fix the oven. I was going to do it to start with, but when she told me that she got a repair estimate for $76 then for that price it really wasn't worth it for me to get involved in something that I haven't done before. Now at almost triple that price, and in view of the dishonesty that exists with some repair outfits I will fix it myself.

Check the on-line parts places for lower prices and better service than going to GE direct. I've used pcappliancerepair and A-1appliance in the past and been very happy. Google "appliance parts" and take your pick. If you know the GE part number, often Google will find a source from it alone.
