Customers of plumbers: Never be afraid to ask for proof of licensure of the plumber servicing your equipment. A licensed plumber will be proud to show you his personal license.--

I have never been asked to show my license by a customer in 55 years. And even inspectors have only asked a couple of times.

... and that's why I wrote that.

I can vouch for the same thing, although not 55 years worth, lol!

The point is, we plumbers are a skilled craft. We have invested time to become what we are. We should not be ashamed of what we are, but proud.

When I read about all the detrimental experiences that people have had with plumbers, I wonder how many of them were actually licensed.

For the customer, the license is your proof that you have a qualified person working for you. If you have any qualms, simply call the licensing board listed on the license.

If you didn't ask to SEE a license, shame on you...

Having a license does not equal being qualified, any more than having a driver's license makes you a good driver. I am sure a lot of the "Bozo"s we read about are licensed. They just spent their time studying for the test, not learning how to be good at the trade. How many requests have you seen in these boards about someone who has completed a minimum requirement and now wants to know where they can find a copy of the test so they can get their contractor's/master's license?
