I had a 3/4 hp submersible pump go out rated at 10gpm I have a spare 1/2 hp 10gpm pump. My question is will there be much differance in the two? I use it to water lawn from a lake I ran 500ft of 1 in. pipe from water to sprinklers but the elevation rise is only about 60 ft. With the 3/4 I was getting 10-13gpm at sprinklers do you think the 1/2 will take care of what I need or do I need another 3/4hp. I run the pump open no pressure tank.

A 1/2 HP Goulds 10GS05 provides about 55 psi at 13 GPM and 70 psi at 10 GPM. The 3/4 HP 10GS07 provides nearly 85 psi at 13 GPM.

The 500 ft of 1" pipe is going to have 20 to 25 psi pressure loss at 13 GPM and about 15 psi at 10 GPM. If you ever have to replace the pipe, consider going to 1 1/4" which would have only about 6 psi loss at 13 GPM. That is the difference between a 3/4 HP and a 1/2 HP pump.

The 1/2 HP pump is probably going to deliver nearer 10 GPM than 13 GPM.

If it is the pump that is bad and not the motor, and since it is an irrigation pump with less consequence and easy access if it fails, you might be able to replace the pump head. The motor is usually more than half the cost of the pump/motor assembly.
