When a drain line (from a fixture) is connected to a branch line on its way to the stack, should the Y be oriented vertically or horizontally?

The branch can enter anywhere from 90 degrees to either side, above the centerline.

Y's and combos can have any orientation. Only sanitary tees CANNOT be used in a horizontal drain line.
