Identify shower valve, Price Pfishter?

Can anyone help identify these 2 shower valves

From the stem, probably Price Pfister. What is the problem with them? A picture of what is UNDER the chrome trim plate would be more helpful.

I lean to Price Pfister as hj. Do they go on/off with a push/pull???

Looks like Price Pfister "Avante". They work like Jimbo described.

Would have to see behind the plate to tell if it is an Avante or pressure balanced.
