Control box humms and the pressure gauge is registering 0. Tap the control box and it starts pumping or if the circuit breaker is switched off and on it will kick on. Not a user of multi meter. Can run for a couple of days and no problem or run a couple of cycles and happen again. Pump is 240' deep.

Thanks for any clues.

Probably have a bad starting capacitor and starting relay in the control box. Could also have burned points in the pressure switch. Your motor could also be damaged and tripping the overload. Burned motor and pressure switch along with bad start cap and start relay are caused by “starting too much”, also called “cycling”. Just like we know smoking will give you lung cancer, we also know cycling is the number one killer of pump systems. And although there is no cure for cancer yet, there is a cure for cycling.

Electrician out this afternoon be back in a couple of days, has to order a part for control box. Says Burned contacts which is not to unheard of. Thank you all for the replies. We shall see if that is the end of the saga!!!

Your average control box new is around $50 - $60. Less than what it cost to pay someone to rebuild the old one, plus you can have the water back on the same day.
