well keeps cutting on and off

My shallow 1/2 power well pump keeps cutting on and off. I get water but it gets to hot so I just cut it off. What can be the problem? I have adjusted the pressure but that seems to not fix the problem.

You don't provide enough info for a prognosis.

What gets too hot, the water or the motor? If the motor, then the thermal protector is probably turning it off.

Is this feeding a bladder tank or hydro-pneumatic tank? Does it have the expected drawdown?
